Chess team Uganda enjoying the great ambience at a central playing location in Ntinda Ministers Village. L-R Wasswa Mark Nyola, Ssenkoole Laurrice, Namaganda Shanita, Shakira Ampaire, Namaganda Christine, Nansubuga Gloria, Nakanyike Maria, Kimera Innocent and Team captain Okas Walter.

In the the ealier matches, team Uganda lost to Namibia 3.5- 2.5 in 7th round  and Malta 4-2 in the 8th round.

The players represented Uganda well and took it as an honour to fly the Uganda flag at such a high level event. The experience gained and lessons learnt at such events is invaluable and therefore the players can only improve and play bettter at future events.

The event was timely as it provided much needed entertainment which has been hard to find during the COVID 19 situation. The Uganda Chess community followed proceedings online and were happily supporting the chess players who showcased as great ambassadors for the country.

The ladies overall had a fairly good outing with WCM Shakira Ampaire standing out as a star player for the team, while Nakabo Peninah and Nakanyike Mariah, WFM Namaganda Christine, and Namaganda Shanita had a fairly good outing.

On the other hand the Men led by FM Wanyama Harold posted mixed results which the UCF technical wing will have to address in the future events.

The COVID 19 situation in Uganda paused several challenges that affected earlier preparations but UCF executive was able to secure a great central location for play and also provided allowances to the Ugandan participants.

It is impossible to hold such a huge event without challenges and therefore UCF is respectufully grateful to the players, sponsors, administrators, event organizers and the entire Uganda Chess Community that enabled chess team Uganda to play under the current situation.
