MULAGO KINGS CROWNED 2011 CHESS LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

Mulago Kings Chess Club humbled Kireka Chess Club 5-0 in the fifteenth and final round of the National Chess League to clinch victory in style with 5 points ahead of second placed City Chess Club in games played at Hotel Africana on Sunday 30th October 2011.

To win the game, Kings’ Harold Wanyama, Arthur Ssegwanyi, Grace Nsubuga, Kenneth Kakooza and Debby Wanja won their games against Kireka’s Rajab Mulindwa, Christopher Turyahabwe, Samuel Masaga, Shawn Segawa and Joy Kebengano respectively. For their efforts, Mulago Kings won themselves a glamorous trophy that they took home for keeps.

Second placed City beat UCU Knights 4.5-0.5 but it was not enough to change their position. Third placed Uganda Chess Academy beat Mulago Rooks 3.5-1.5 as fourth placed Mulago Knights cemented their position after hammering bottom placed Bank of Uganda 5-0.

Aviation Chess Club continued their late onslaught to beat Mulago Queens 3.5-1.5, a result that enabled them to jump from seventh to sixth position ahead of Mulago Rooks.

In other games, Mengo beat Enkabi 5-0 as Makerere University drew with Makindye 2.5-2.5. On Board One, Mulago Kings’ Harold Wanyama was the best player having scored 11.5 points out of a possible 13. The best player onboard two was Uganda Chess Academy’s Walter Okas who scored 13.5 points out of a possible 15. City Chess Club’s Rajab Kamoga was the best player on board three after scoring 13.5 points out of a possible 15 while Mulago Kings’ Grace Nsubuga was the best on board four after he notched 12.5 points out of a possible 15.
