Mulago Knights are enjoying an early lead in the National Chess League after two straing wins against Barclays Chess Club (5-0) and Mulago Pawns Chess Club (4.5-0.5) in first and second round games played on Sunday 17th July 2011 at Hotel Africana.

Closing following them is Mulago Kings with 9 points out of 10. The league kicked off in earnest under the new format with over 100 players and spectators converging in one central location for the first time in many years. A record 16 clubs are taking part in the league.

One of the biggest upsets in the first round league game was Kireka's unknown Robert Muyinda beating Enkabi's Elija Emojong on board one after the later made a futile piece sacrifice.

New comers City Chess Club are also chest thumping after two straight wins that put the m in an early third position. The detailed standings are attached as well as both round results.
