Uganda's Elijah Emojong won his first round game of the Zone 4.2 Africa Chess Championship played Friday 20th May 2011 against a Sudanese player rated 2157, controversially lost to a Sudanese in the second round on Saturday but recovered to eke out a hard fought win in the third round against another Sudanese Holi Mawuya rated 2187 on Sunday 22nd May 2011.

Unrated Emojong is now up against tougher opposition in the frame of Nigeria's International Master Olape Olubunmu. After three rounds, Emojong has two points out of a possible three.
He is yet to face two other International Masters from Egypt who have already played each other and one of them lost to the other in the tournament being played in Khartoum.

Uganda's female representative Goretti Angolikin had a baptism of fire in her first round game that she lost to Egypt's more experienced Merham Mahmood. Angolikin however managed to pick herself up and beat Sudan's Alizabeth with a Ruy Lopez opening in the second round played on Sunday 22nd May 2011. Only two games have so far been played in the ladies category and of that Angolikin has one win and one loss.
Angolikin is today (Monday 23rd May 2011) scheduled to play against Sudan's Ciseera Mohammed in a game that starts at 10:00 am, East African time.
While the men are engaged in a round robin, the ladies are in for a double round robin (implying that Angolikin will take on each of her opponents twice).
