UGANDA'S WANYAMA WINS 2012 KENYA OPEN PDF 

Uganda's Olympiad bound Harold Wanyama was the star performer in the just ended Kenya Open Chess Championship after winning the event with 8 points out of a possible 9 in the event held from 1 - 3 June 2012 at Kenyatta University in Kenya.

The win earned Wanyama a prestigious trophy and a cash prize of 30,000 Kenya Shillings. In second position was Kenya's Peter Gilruth who scooped 7.5 points followed by Hinga Githnji and Ben Magana at 7 points each.

CM Patrick Kawuma, Haruna Nsubuga and Isaac Otim are the other Ugandans who participated in the Open category that attracted a total of 97 participants.

The brilliant win was the perfect preparation for Wanyama who along with Kawuma are part of Uganda's team to the 40th World Chess Olympiad due to be held in Istanbul, Turkey in August 2012.

In the ladies category, Uganda's Christine Namaganda finished in fifth position out of 24 participants with 5.5 points out of 9. The ladies category was historically won by a 9 year old, Kishan Sharanya with 8 points followed by two other Kenyans Isabelle Asiema and Gweyani Jumba.

1. Subham Rai - (4.5pts) Kshs. 3500/= plus Trophy
2. George Githui - (4.5pts) Kshs. 2500/= plus Trophy
