TOP PLAYERS BRACE FOR ACTION IN 3RD PHASE OF QUALIFIERS
The stage is set for the top 12 chess players in the country to slug it out in a round robin tournament to determine the best four to complete Uganda's team to the World Chess Olympiad scheduled for August 27 - September 10 in Istanbul, Turkey. Final phase qualifier games commence on Saturday 28 April at Pope Paul Memorial Hotel in Kampala starting at 9.00 am.
The qualifiers will continue on Sunday 29 April, Tuesday 1 May, Saturday 5 - Sunday 6 and Saturday 12 May 2012.
Some of the most interesting ties for this weekend will feature onform Harold Wanyama against CM Patrick Kawuma and former Olympian Shadrack Kantinti agaisnt FM Elijah Emojong in the first round.
The best four after 11 rounds of play will join National Chess Champion, Arthur Ssegwanyi to form Uganda's team of five men.
12 ladies including Ivy Amoko, Rita Nsubuga, Christine Namaganda, Goretti Angolikin, Phiona Mutesi and Cathy Kenyange will also be slugging it out to determine the four that join National Ladies Champion, Grace Kigeni to make Uganda's ladies team of five.
