Kenya's experienced Peter Gilruth outwitted Ugandan Chess stars to win the Northrift International Chess Championship held in Eldoret Kenya from Friday 16th to Sunday 19th March 2012.

To win the event, Gilruth won 6 games out of 6 to finish unbeaten with maximum points in the FIDE rated event arbitrated by Uganda's FIDE Arbiter, Stephen Kisuze.

Ugandans Rajab Kamoga, Haruna Nsubuga, Arthur Ssegwanyi and Kanduho Washaba finished in second, third, fourth and fifth positions respectively. Simon Gonza and Bob Bibasa finished in seventh and eighth positions out of 15 participants in the men's category.

On his way to victory, Gilruth beat fellow Kenyan Clement Miheso and five Ugandans Kanduho Washaba, Simon Gonza, Rajab Kamoga, Bob Bibasa and National Champion Arthur Ssegwanyi.

The ladies category was won by Uganda's Christine Namaganda with 4 points out of a possible 5 followed by Kenya's Rose Wabuti.
